The "Medina" fish was so called after 6 were found
on the shipwrecked SS Medina which was sunk by torpedoes in 1917, the ship had been returning from India with articles collected
by the ex Governor of Calcutta Lord Carmichael. In 1986 a salvage team recovered from the SS Medina a box marked GCIE (Grand
Commander of the Indian Empire) proof the box and its contents including the 6 brass articulated fish had belonged to Lord
Carmichael.
